Climate in Cyprus

The middle temperature in Cyprus in September is 25 -35 degrees, in October -20-30, in November – 15-25.In September and in October nights are warm: about 20-25 degrees, but in November it is much colder, 10-20. In autumn you will need the same clothes as in spring. In the afternoon it’s better to wear light clothes and bathing suits, because it’s rather warm outside, but at night you will have to wear warmer clothes, something like sweater or jacket, because it will be colder. The climate in Cyprus is mild, with a lot of sunny days within a year. The winter is very short and mild, the middle temperature is from +17 to +19 degrees C, but in highlands it is colder and sometimes it snows there. The summer is hot; it lasts from the middle of May until the middle of October. During this period the temperature can be up to +35 degrees C in the shade, but because of the low humidity, heat is transferred easily. The average water temperature off the coast of Cyprus in July is +23 degrees C, in February (the coldest month), is + 14 degrees C, the swimming season is almost all the year round.

When is it best to travel to Cyprus? The best weather in Cyprus is in October. This is the velvet season that combines a part of the daily heat with cool evening light. Bathing on Cyprus beaches in October and November is a pleasure: the temperature of the water for two months smoothly decreases from +24 to +21. This is a hygienic optimum.

Winter

Winters in Cyprus are rainy to the pleasure of Cyprus inhabitants. Most of the times it is raining  up in the mountains of Troodos and often it rains at night.
The winter temperature in the afternoon is 10-20 degrees C.
The winter temperature at night is 5-12 degrees C.

In winter the sun shines most days. If it’s not windy you can wear light clothes like t-shirts or shirts. Some tourists swim. By the way, a small swimming pool can be warmed up by the sun until the appropriate swimming temperature on a sunny winter day.  Winter nights are rather cold so it’s better to wear a warm sweater or a coat and winter shoes. Take warm clothes and a raincoat and an umbrella with you while travelling to Cyprus. Sunglasses and shirts with t-shirts will be useful too. The average air temperature in December is +18 during the day, the sea’s temperature is around +19 C. In Cyprus it is much hotter than normal in July and August than in Central and Northern European countries. You can ski in the mountains and lay on the beach on the same day in the winter.

New Year’s celebration is not shadowed by measurements of air temperatures. At night it is +8 C, during the days it is +16 C, the sea’s temperature is +17 C. Sometimes it is humid, sometimes it rains. Most of the days are sunny. This weather is very comfortable until May.
