There are plenty of things to do in Cyprus all the year round. Whether you know it as the ‘Island of sin’ (or ‘Fun’) thanks to wild stories from Agia Napa; the country that entered the EU only as a half; or, as the tourist brochures love to point out, ‘The Island of Aphrodite’, Cyprus both confirms and confounds the stereotype. Young people enjoy themselves visiting numerous bars and clubs after hot days on the beach during the season. The tourist centres of places like Pafos, Agia Napa or Lemessos (Limassol), you might feel as if you’ve entered a sunny, scorching Essex suburb with lobster-red Brits letting it all hang loose with a lukewarm can of Foster’s in tow. But if curiosity draws you out of the cities, you’ll discover the small villages of the Akamas Peninsula and the heavenly golden beaches of the Karpas (Kırpaşa) Peninsula. Walk the gorgeous Troödos and Kyrenia (Girme) & the Northcoast and inhale the scent of the citrus groves of Morfou (Güzelyurt), or climb to the medieval castles with their shimmering island views. Wander through the sea of wildflowers covering the island in spring, and Cyprus will take your breath away. With good walking shoes, a swimsuit and some sunscreen in your bag, you can have a trip you’ll remember for years.
Cyprus Beaches are surrounded by miles of sparkling turquoise blue sea and enjoy year-round sunshine which makes them the ideal location for a holiday in the sun. Some of the beaches in Cyprus have golden sand and others are a mixture of sand and pebble. Many have tiny coves or long stretches of golden sand with sand dunes in isolated locations. Most beaches offer popular water-sports such as scuba diving, water sports and sailing and, as Cyprus belongs to the European Blue Flag Campaign, only quality beaches get the'BlueFlag' seal of approval. All nature of water sports can be pursued including water skiing, scuba diving, wind surfing and sailing. Trained instructors are also on hand to offer assistance and tuition. Water lovers will also like to try Water Parks located near major cities of Cyprus, which have a large number of slides, an activity pool as well as a children's pool.
At night you can wine and dine under the moonlit sky with the scent of jasmine heavy in the warm night air.
Discover the romantic walks where Aphrodite, Goddess of love, once played with her lover Adonis. The nearby village of Kouklia (Palaipafos - Old Pafos) is where the Sanctuary of Aphrodite once stood. The area of Pafos (once the capital of Cyprus) is full of the myths and legends of the beautiful goddess and known as Aphrodite territory. Nearby is Petra Tou Romiou, the birthplace of Aphrodite and a very popular place for Cyprus weddings.
Discover the many gems of the pine-clad Troodos Mountains with Cyprus tours. Nestled high in these Mountains is the Kykkos Monastery, the most famous in Cyprus. This is an area of outstanding beauty so just take a Jeep Safari to the Troodos and tour the green heart of Cyprus on a 4WD and visit the most famous monastery on the island.
Hiking is a very popular pastime in Cyprus, due to the large areas of unspoiled countryside. There are numerous signposted trails all over the island.
